Something More Than an Accident
Focused in many accident cases: Marchese Injury Law is located in Portland, Maine.
An “accident” is not usually just an accident…. It is often caused by someone who acted in a way that the law deems negligent because that individual did not use reasonable care in preventing the “accident” from happening.
You may have a negligence claim involving car accidents, motorcycle accidents, pedestrian vs. car accidents, boating accidents, premises liability (injuries from dangerous conditions on someone’s property), slip-and-fall cases, dog bites, children’s injuries, workplace accidents or wrongful death. Malpractice claims, including medical, dental, legal, hospital, nursing home or therapist malpractice also are governed by negligence, although these cases are much more involved than an auto accident case, and the laws governing them are different.
If you are harmed through someone else’s fault:
- Get contact information of all witnesses and the person who injured you, in addition to the insurance company name, address and policy number.
- Take photos of the accident scene and the involved vehicles, if possible, or have someone obtain photos as soon as possible afterwards.
- Write down what you know about the accident while your memory is still fresh, and keep a detailed journal from the day you get in an accident. Take detailed notes about your injuries, and take photos of any bruises, bleeding, casting/splinting or cuts.
- ALWAYS talk to an attorney before speaking to the other party’s insurance company…All insurance companies – even your own — are looking for ways to pay you less money.
When you are injured by someone’s negligence or recklessness, you deserve to be compensated for your injuries, pain and suffering, medical bills, future medical care, lost wages, lost earning capacity, permanent impairment and decreased quality of life. Our ability and experience will get the proper compensation for you in all these categories.
